Nancy Gaertner was the twelfth first lady of SHSU (2001-2010).

In 2010, the Texas State University System Board of Regents approved the naming of the newly-opened Gaertner Performing Arts Center in honor of President Gaertner and his wife, Nancy, in appreciation of what they "have done...for this university and community....”
