S. Hayden "Hap" (or "Happy") Malone was a 1930 graduate of SHSTC and later became professor of Physical Education and head baseball coach (1949-56).

Malone was a 1971 inductee into the Bearkat Hall of Honor.The Malone Family Apartments were named in his honor.
