Sam Houston Statue

Intersection of Avenue J and 19th Street Map | News | ID#: Timeline Sep. 11, 2008 Dedicated The 20-foot statue faces west toward the quadrangle from his perch between the AB1 and the Business Building. Three SHSU alumni had a part in the Statue of Sam Houston.

The 20-foot tall Sam Houston Statue stands in the central part of campus between Academic Building One and the Smith-Hutson Business Building.

The statue of Houston was a donation by Ron Mafrige to honor both Lt. Col. M.B. Etheredge and sculptor David Adickes. The statue, on a four-foot base, is a replica of the 67-foot statue that stands on I-45 south of Huntsville created by Adickes in 1994.
