Nancy Ann "Nannie" Allen Mitchell operated the Mitchell Boarding House for close to 20 years for SHNI women, until 1928. A member of the Texas Prison System Pardon and Parole Board in the 1930s, she became active on the SHSTC campus, eventually serving as assistant director of Belvin Hall until 1951. Mitchell House was named in her honor.
