Ramsey Murray Woods was the first professor of sociology and economics at SHSU, focusing on rural sociology and social inequality (1910-1940).One of the Departmental Dorms - Woods Hall - was named in his honor, as was the Woods Building. A stained glass window in Old Main was presented in his memory.

The Ramsey M. Woods Scholarship fund was also named in his honor and available for graduate and undergraduate students majoring in Sociology.
