1920 Tree of Lights tradition begins.   1921   1922   1923 June 23 School is renamed Sam Houston State Teachers' College. Athletic teams are nicknamed "the Bearkats" (Prior to this, teams were nicknamed "The Normals") Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College opens in Nacogdoches.   1924 Men's Gymnasium constructed.   1925   1926   1927   1928   1929 Estill Building constructed. Sam Houston Kitchen constructed.
