Old Main Market is a 23,000-square- foot dining hall located at the intersection of Bearkat Boulevard and University Avenue.
The structure was first proposed as early as 2007, when it was tentatively planned to be located east of the Student Health Center [1]. In 2008, the Houstonian reported its location had moved and would replace existing structures on Bearkat Boulevard - namely Lawrence and Mitchell Houses - north of Belvin-Buchanan Hall [2].
In March 2010, the SHSU Physical Plant announced that construction would begin approximately April 5. In May 2011, the Board of Regents approved changing the building's name upon completion to one memorializing Old Main. The $8.5 million facility opened in August 2011.

Early proposals for the dining center had it catercorner to where it was eventually built [1]. Lone Star Hall was built at the site instead. |

The foundation was in the process of being created by mid-summer. |
