Ladykat Field (sometimes Bearkat Field) served as the home ballpark for the SHSU softball team from 1997 to 2004. The 500-seat ball park is located southwest of main campus along Avenue M on land once used as the College Farm.
The SHSU Softball program began in 1981 and has called various fields around Huntsville their home, including the university intramural fields and the fields at Kate Barr Ross Park, northwest of main campus on Highway 75. This was followed by a stint at Josey Field, the city-owned park, located at the northwest corner of Sam Houston Avenue and Josey Street.
In 1997 construction was completed near the pistol/rilfe range southwest of campus on the new LadyKat Field and its surrounding dugout and concession buildings.
The team vacated this ballpark in 2004 to begin play the following season at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
