Col. Jackson E. Josey was a member of the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System.

He was the son of Evander T. Josey (1842-1925), a Huntsville teacher and Civil War veteran, and the brother of Robert A. Josey (1870-1954), an 1890 graduate of SHNI and namesake of the Josey Boy Scout Lodge (1934) in Huntsville's Josey Park.

He helped support the 1936 restoration and transfer of the Steamboat House from its original location to the Museum grounds. For their dedication to and funding of civic and university projects, SHSU honored Col. Josey and the Josey family in the naming of the Josey School of Vocational Education.
