The Jewel Garden, the 1948 senior class project, is located on the western side of Austin Hall.
This area was a dangerous and unsightly red mud slope before the efforts of campus beautician Grace Longino Cox. Today a fountain and flowerbed cover the area named for the various precious stones decorating the ground.
