DeWitte Holleman
 
 
DeWitte C. Holleman was a graduate of Sam Houston State Teachers College. During his time as a student he lettered in basketball (1927-30) and baseball (1927-30) and served as baseball captain his senior year.

After graduation he taught and administrated in the Victoria and Normangee school districts and then served the Sam Houston State administration for thirty-four years: first as Assistant Business Manager (alongside Ottie Barrett) (1939-1944); Business Manager (1944-63); and Comptroller (1963-73).

He was president of the T Club in 1935 and a charter inductee into the Bearkat Hall of Honor in 1971.Holleman Field carries his name and the electronic sign at the corner of Bowers Blvd. and Avenue H is dedicated to his memory.
