Sam Houston Village is a university-owned housing complex northwest of the main campus.

In 2003, the university bought the land bounded by Sam Houston Avenue, 16th and 17th Street, and Avenue M (partially containing Zach's Bar and Grill and the 17th Street Bar), for the planned development of a new housing complex.

Opening a year later, the $19.3 Million complex houses over 500 freshmen and features fully furnished suites, including two bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and living area. SHV is also the first campus housing to feature an underground parking garage.

The bar on the corner of Sam Houston Avenue and 17th Street went by different names over the years – including the Lampost, as shown in the 1982 Alcalde photograph.
Construction begins in October 2003 on the new building. Nearby is Jackson-Shaver Hall, the Catholic Student Center and Pritchett Field.
Sam Houston Village is located across Sam Houston Avenue, making for some minor difficulties for those students walking to and from class.
