Faith Lutheran Chapel was the original owner of the ground at the intersection of Seventeenth Street and Avenue J. They built the first building on this property, which was initially just a residence remodeled by members of its congregation.
A second building was dedicated in 1964; it later would be used as the Lutheran Student Center.
In 1984 the university purchased the grounds to use as the Department of Music's Recital Hall, replacing the recital area lost in the Old Main fire.
