McCray House was located on Avenue I on the south side of campus. In the Residence Life naming system, McCray and the surrounding small houses were classified as "Four South," and then later as part of "The Valley."

The house was identified as one of the Mens Cooperative Homes when its honorary name was approved by the Board of Regents [1].

While a number of small houses across campus were home to fraternities or sororities over the years, McCray served as the former location for the Region VI Education Service Center, as evidenced by the fading white lettered sign painted on the front of the building.

The February 2005 assembly of the Board of Regents approved the demolition of McCray and Aydelotte houses and the eventual construction of Raven Village.
