Johnson Coliseum is on the east side of campus, at the intersection of Bowers Boulevard and Bobby K. Marks Drive. Originally named University Coliseum, it opened on February 9, 1976 with a 59-54 victory over Southwest Texas State University.

The multi-purpose facility is under the management of the Department of Recreational Sports and hosts university athletic events (men's and women's basketball and volleyball), regular campus events including registration and commencement exercises, and other special events such as concerts with 5,529 fixed seats, 565 retractable bleacher seats and the capacity of adding another 1,000 chairs on the floor.
