The western side of the original campus quadrangle expanded in the 1950s with the construction of the Graphic Arts and Music buildings.
The Music Building contained classrooms, offices, and instrument practice areas; it became known as Music 1 in 1964 when the former Student Union Building was renamed Music 2.
The English Building arrived on the quad seven years later.
Through the miracle of modern construction technology, the two buildings were joined at the hip in the late 1980s. Today the entire building houses the Departments of English and Foreign Language.
