The SHSU Softball program began in 1981 and has called various fields around Huntsville their home during that time.
For many years the team played near campus on the university intramural fields. At one point the team also played and practiced at the fields at Kate Barr Ross Park, 10 minutes northwest of main campus on Highway 75. This was followed by a stint at Josey Field, the city-owned park, located at the northwest corner of Sam Houston Avenue and Josey Street.
In 1994, a new pistol/rifle range building was constructed southwest of the field. In the early 2000s it was repurposed as the LadyKat Softball locker building.
In 1997 construction was completed near the pistol range on the new LadyKat Field and its surrounding dugout and concession buildings.
The team vacated Bearkat Field in 2005 to begin play the following season at the Bearkat Softball Complex beside Bowers Stadium.
