Barrett House is located at the intersection of Avenue J and 20th Street on the south-central side of campus. In the Residence Life naming system, Barrett and the surrounding small houses were classified as "Four Central," and later, "The Valley."

The history of Barrett House is somewhat nondescript as it is one of only a few small houses not used for university offices or a fraternity or sorority since its construction.
