Barrett House is located at the intersection of Avenue J and 20th Street on the south-central side of campus. In the Residence Life naming system, Barrett and the surrounding small houses were classified as "Four Central," and later, "The Valley."
The history of Barrett House is somewhat nondescript as it is one of only a few small houses not used for university offices or a fraternity or sorority since its construction.
It wasn't until the 1950's that campus boundaries began to push south of Twentieth Street, where various structures and vacant plots were once found.
By the early 1960s small houses and other housing structures dominated the south and western boundaries of campus.
