It wasn't until the 1950's that campus boundaries began to push past Twentieth Street, where various structures and vacant plots were once found.
In the Residence Life naming system, Barrett and the surrounding small houses were classified as "Four Central," and later, "The Valley."

Barrett House is a student residence located at the intersection of Avenue J and 20th Street on the south-central side of campus.

It appears to be one of the few small houses to not have been affiliated with a fraternity or sorority since its construction.
