Student housing became popular along Seventeenth Street in the late-1950s to early-1960s, replacing landscaped residential areas.
In the Residence Life naming system, Baldwin and the surrounding small houses were classified as "Four West."

Baldwin House

Baldwin House is one of four small houses located west of main campus on Seventeenth Street.

The house was built for members of the men's social group, the Esquires, who later became members of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

During the 1980s the house appeared on campus maps without an honorary name, instead identified only as one of two Athletic Dorms (presumably housing for football players utilizing nearby Pritchett Field).  A 1993 campus map again identifies this as a fraternity house; by 1995 the house is shown with Baldwin’s name.
