Academic Building One (AB1) is a four-story structure located in the east-central part of campus.
During the late-1960s the need for classroom space pushed the borders of the university eastward and this building, then known as the Math and Foreign Languages Building, as well as the Business Administration Building and the university's third library became the first permanent structures built east of Avenue I.
By the 1980s, with the math and foreign languages departments housed elsewhere, this and other buildings used for various departments and programs were rechristened as generic academic buildings (such as AB2 and AB3). Once home to the Political Science and Sociology departments, the facility is now mostly given over to the Department of Computer Science and SHSU Computer Services. The top floor consists of a penthouse that has a mechanical room. |
